Crowns
A porcelain crown is an all-white restoration created in a dental lab to fit snugly over the portion of a tooth that extends above the gum line. In some cases when a molar needs repair, Dr. Fitzgerald may recommend a metal or porcelain-fused-to-metal crown as the best restoration for the high-stress, high-moisture area. Crowns restore structure, function, and natural beauty to a tooth compromised by damage or decay. The procedure requires two appointments. At the first visit, Dr. Fitzgerald will take an impression, prepare your tooth, and place a temporary crown. Between visits, a dental ceramist will craft your restoration in a dental lab. Your final visit will involve permanent placement of your new crown. Dr. Fitzgerald will make sure that you leave with a comfortable bite, so your new crown will look and function just like the original healthy tooth.
